Children born in 2007 have the option of playing U9 Intown or U10 Travel.  Our U5/U7/U9 intown leagues are recreational, with one session per week on Saturdays (U5) or Sundays (U7/U9).  Travel teams are competitive, and practice two days a week with one home or away game on Saturdays (U10-U14) or Sundays (U16 and above).

About U5/U7/U9: In-City

U5, U7, and U9 teams are co-ed. The teams all practice and play within Malden on one day of the week. See Schedules.  Additional U7 and U9 information is available at their blogs.

Goals for Players

  • U5: To learn basic soccer skills and rules through fun, games, activities, and scrimmages; and to begin to learn the concept of teamwork.
  • U7/U9: To continue to learn basic soccer skills through skills-based activities and scrimmaging. Focus is also on the rules of the game, and preparing players to play on travel teams by the time they reach U10.

About U10-U19: Travel teams

Travel teams are divided by gender: there are boys teams and girls teams at each age level.

U10-U14 teams play in the Fall and Spring, with an indoor Winter session. U16+ teams only have a Spring MYS season. High school teams compete in the Fall.

U10-U19 teams
practice on several fields in Malden, twice a week for 1.5-2 hours, on days and times chosen by the coaches, and play against other teams in the Middlesex Youth Soccer League on Saturdays (U10/U12/U14) or Sundays (U16 and older).  In general, each team's season is half at home, and half away.

Financial Assistance

There are limited scholarships available for players suffering financial hardship. Please contact the MYS President for additional information and an application.
